Nothing better than the purifying carrying of the linen that knows of being cleaned up, after the shower or outside the bathtub. Embroidered and frayed like a time or simply smooth and pure, the towel in linen is the comfort of excellence.

Different from the classic sponge towels, that one in linen has numerous advantages: it dries the skin more quickly, it is soft, anti-allergic and fresh.

They dry themselves in a hurry, even if it remains more creased, but who loves linen loves also its folds. Indicated for the delicate skin of babies, for taking off make-up, after shaving and for those who have problems with acne.

Sheets and quilts… the innovations for the summer

We will never get tired to repeat and to write how comfortable and healthy the linen is for the bed. With the arrival of the summer a sheet in linen can offer well-being, even if warmth overwhelms us, thanks to its elevated thermotransparant qualities, it helps to maintain the skin fresh and dry. The green of pistache nuts, the blue of the sea and the ecrù of the Sicilian earth. From these suggestions of colour the new read line Taormina draws inspiration. Colours that, bound together to the candor of the linen white man, which gives freshness and brightness to the bedroom. An irrenounceable pleasure for the warm season. Linen in the kitchen

Also in kitchen the linen has a place of all respect, indeed exclusive! Very rarely it is used, nevertheless a good kitcken towel can make the difference, certainly if in linen.

It knows well, who not passes the transparency of crystals or the shine of porcelain and those who love to cook and prefer in marmalade syrups etc… Some time ago in fact, the kitcken towel in linen was of common use and was us

ed to filter marmalade or distilled ones like measles, walnuts, ratafià and many others. In the beginning of the ‘900 in the set of a young bride there were 30 towels for kitchen use and 30 dishcloths for the dust  in linen or hemp. Don’t forget the , which are perfect to dry important glasswork, decanter and crystals, making them shining and immaculate; ideal to put aside fresh paste, ravioli or tagliatelle: it is not sticky and conservation improves, essential characteristic also for cheeses and salumi. Used in the production process of parmigiano reggiano, when it is still morbid,  it’s colle

cted in a great linen cloth and transferred to the appropriate bands that will give it its characteristic form. More sophisticated cooks  use it to filter the soup of the cooking of stew and roast.

For those who worry about the more resistant spots, we
will never get bored to remember that, the linen, typical for its recognisable resistance, can be washed till 90° without losing its natural softness. For a perfect ironing instead, only an elevated humidity degree is sufficient.

Sleep tight

To sleep well is the better way to recharge oneself in healthier and more natural way. The sleep re-establishes our balance and our energies, favouring the immune system. They are worth always the many extolled rules of gold, feeding, physical activity, etc, but to sleep well, to live better day by day, a good bed is indispensable, also as structure and as linen: bedspreads, pillowcases, sheets and eiderdown. For a natural sleep of quality the linen must be sufficient. In reality the sheet coincides with the linen: the word in fact, derived from the Latin: linteolum, linen cloth, and no other woven texture for the night is more hygienic and healthy. For the sleep, an essential moment in anyone’s life, a moment to relax and of liberation, nothing is better than linen: it is hygroscopic, which means it can absorb liquids till 20% of its weight. This means to maintain our dry and fresh body. It is thermostatic: during winter the linen sheet acts as heat conductor, because the capture from blankets transmitts it to our body. During summer instead, the pillowcase and sheet absorb the heat they disperse in the environment.

It seems that one Italian on five suffers from disturbances of sleep and 14% of chronic insomnia. But recent studies defined that insomnia is not a lack of sleep, but an unsatisfactory sleep, which is the lack of well-being which we should experience while awakening..

A splendid bloom

The plant of linen is a simple plant, little striking but gracious, belonging to the family of Linacee, which contains 22 kinds and more than 200 sorts, but only one, Linum usitatissimum, is cultivated and used for the fibre. His habitat is the temporate zones of Europe, from the nord to the mediterranean: IrelandFranceBelgiumSpainEgypt and Italy. The sowing-time is between the 19th and the 25th of march: so less than a week to put the little seed in the ground until the days of autumn. And than waiting. A hundred days more or less to see the little plant grow. The steel is thin and about 70 to 100 cm high. The flower can vary from pure blu to rose or white. When it reaches maturity inside a capsule is formed in which you can find more or less 20 seeds.

The seeds are very little, flat, brown-coloured and light: 1000 seeds weigh 4 to 6 grams and are rich of oil: another gift of this beneficent plant. But the true texture of linen is in the steel in which you can find the textile fibre.

At the moment of harvest the plant is uprooted and the steel is submitted to soaking in big reservoirs with heated water at 37 degrees for 48 hours. One time this process takes 8 days, it begins in the ground where the steels have contact with dawn, or in appropriate reservoirs or in running water, with anxiety, the waitings of these human beings, who have the knowledge of this steels to decide when the moment is arrived to pull the linen out of the water.

After the soaking process the wrapping of the fibres is untied from the wooden part. Today this process succeeds mechanically, but for a long time it had been a tiring handwork, that needed to be followed with attention, when the seeds were most precious and yielded the most.

In general, with 1000 kg of soaked linen you receive more or less 150 kg of long fibres, 40 kg of flax, and about 110 kg of linen seeds.

The fibres then are spined, woven, eventually colorated and transformed in the precious tissue.

Linen…

            Splendid and indestructible like gold…

                        Simple and indispensable like bread…

There is linen and linen

Many times we’ve heard the question if our linen pricks.

Infact often some  products with label ‘100 % linen’ in reality are produced with another fibre that calls Ramiè. The difference between the two threads is big. The linen (Linum usitatissimum) is cultivated in Europe, while the Ramiè Boehmeria is of asian origine. It makes part of the family of Urticacee. This is the first reason why often a tissue, sold like linen, is something completely different than soft, but rigid and vitreous… almost irritating. But how to recognize a tissue in real linen?

Linen is above all gratifying, warm and soft in contact and is characterized by these grains (technically it is called ‘flames’) irregular and evident. The tissue of Ramiè is smooth, rigid and cold. The thread is regular, almost like cotton. The flames are scarce and less evident. It has an accentuated tendency in hairiness, also for simple rubbing  or washing.

Unnecessary to say that our linen doesn’t prick…
